Exact birth-chart angle calculator

Descendant calculator

Find the zodiac sign and exact degree of your Descendant (DSC), the western horizon of your birth chart. The calculator adds the sign’s ruler, planets in the 7th house and planets aspecting the DSC, then lists major cities near the lines where your planets were setting.

Use the date and clock time recorded at birth.

The Descendant moves about one degree every four minutes; an exact recorded time matters.

Your birth details are used to calculate this chart and are not included in usage analytics.

Choose the city from the suggestions so the chart uses its coordinates and historical timezone. The calculator keeps your birth clock time local to that birthplace.

01

What the Descendant describes

The Descendant is the point of the zodiac setting on the western horizon at the moment of birth, exactly opposite the Ascendant. It opens the 7th house, which astrologers read for one-to-one relationships: partners, close collaborators, and the people who mirror us.

Where the Ascendant describes how you meet the world, the DSC is often read as what you look for, or keep meeting, in other people. It is a prompt for reflection, not a description of a future partner.

02

Sign, ruler, 7th house and aspects

Start with the DSC sign and degree. Then look at the planet that rules that sign and where it sits, any planets inside the 7th house, and planets making a close aspect to the DSC. Each is a separate piece of chart evidence; an empty 7th house is common and says nothing about whether you will have relationships.

The calculator uses traditional rulers, one planet per sign, and the Placidus house system, falling back to whole-sign houses near the poles. It shows the orb of every aspect so you can judge how close it is.

03

Descendant lines on the astrocartography map

Every planet also has a Descendant line on the map: the places where that planet was setting at your birth. Astrocartography reads a city near your Venus or Jupiter DSC line as a place where partnership themes are emphasised; Saturn or Pluto DSC lines are read as places where relationships ask for more work.

The result lists major cities within 500 km of each DSC line. Distance matters: the effect is usually described as strongest close to the line and fading over a few hundred kilometres. Open the full map to see every line and smaller places.

04

Why the recorded birth time matters

The Descendant moves through about one degree every four minutes and changes sign roughly every two hours, faster for some signs and at higher latitudes. A time rounded to the hour can put it in the wrong sign. Use the local clock time from a birth record when you can.

Select the birthplace from the suggestions so the chart uses its coordinates and historical timezone, including daylight saving time in effect at birth.

05

What this result cannot decide

A chart cannot tell you who you will meet, whether a relationship is right for you, or where you will find a partner. Moving to a city on a Venus line does not create a relationship, and living near a Saturn line does not prevent one.

Astrology is a symbolic interpretive practice, not a validated relationship assessment. Use the result to ask better questions about what you value in partnership, and make decisions with the people involved and with practical evidence.

Near the Arctic and Antarctic circles, Placidus houses can fail. The calculator reports the house system it actually used and flags calculation limits rather than pretending every location behaves the same.

Descendant calculator questions

What is my Descendant sign?

Enter your birth date, exact local birth time and birthplace. The calculator finds your Ascendant and reports the sign and degree exactly opposite it, which is your Descendant.

Is the Descendant always opposite the Ascendant?

Yes. The Ascendant and Descendant are the two ends of the horizon line, so they are always 180° apart: an Aquarius Ascendant at 29° always has a Leo Descendant at 29°.

Can I calculate my Descendant without a birth time?

Not reliably. The DSC changes sign about every two hours and moves about a degree every four minutes. This calculator requires an exact time rather than substituting noon.

Does my Descendant sign describe my future partner?

No. It is a symbolic clue about relationship patterns and the qualities you notice in others, not a description or prediction of a particular person.

What is a Descendant line in astrocartography?

It is the set of places on the map where a planet was setting on the western horizon at your birth. Living near one is read as emphasising that planet in your relationships; it is an interpretation, not an outcome.
