Transit chart calculator
Compare the sky on any date with your birth chart. The calculator lists which transiting planets aspect your natal planets and angles, whether each contact is applying or separating, and when Jupiter through Pluto stay in orb over the next 12 months. Add a city to see transits to that place’s relocated Ascendant and Midheaven.
Transiting planets
Your chart, on any date
Transits compare the current sky with the positions fixed at your birth. Add a city to see when slow planets touch the angles of that place.
01
What a transit is
Your natal chart freezes the planets at the moment of birth. The real planets keep moving. A transit is the angle between a moving planet today and a fixed point in that natal chart, such as transiting Saturn squaring natal Venus.
Astrologers read transits as timing language: which parts of the chart are being emphasised now, and for roughly how long. They are not forecasts of specific events.
02
Fast and slow transits work on different clocks
The Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars move quickly, so their contacts usually last days. Jupiter and Saturn can stay in orb for weeks or months, and Uranus, Neptune and Pluto can return to the same degree several times over a year because of retrograde motion.
That is why the calculator separates fast contacts from slow ones, and why the timeline only plots the slow planets. The Moon is left out: it passes through every orb used here in less than a day.
03
Orbs, applying and exact dates
An orb is how far a transit is from exact. This calculator uses 3° for conjunctions and oppositions, 2.5° for squares, 2° for trines and 1.5° for sextiles, which is tighter than natal-chart practice because a transit is an event in time.
Applying means the contact is getting closer to exact; separating means it is moving away. The diamonds on the timeline mark the days a slow transit becomes exact, including repeat passes caused by retrograde motion.
04
Why a city changes the timing picture
Planetary positions are the same everywhere on Earth, but the Ascendant and Midheaven depend on where the chart is cast. When you add a city, the calculator keeps your birth moment fixed and recalculates those angles for that location, then checks slow transits against them.
This is the timing side of astrocartography: the map shows where natal planets sit on angles, while transits to relocated angles suggest when a place may feel more emphasised. Treat it as one input beside cost, work, visas and the people you would live near.
Positions are calculated for 12:00 UTC on the chosen date with Astronomy Engine. Exact dates are to the day, not the minute. The supported transit date range is 1900–2099.
05
What this calculator cannot tell you
A transit cannot tell you whether to accept a job, end a relationship or move. Use the windows to choose when to review, test or have a conversation, not to replace medical, legal, financial or personal judgement.
If your birth time is uncertain, planet-to-planet transits remain usable but transits to the Ascendant, Midheaven and houses can shift. Tick “I don’t know my birth time” to have those parts left out instead of guessed.
Transit chart questions
How do I calculate my transits for today?
Enter your birth date, birth time and birthplace. The transit date defaults to today, so the calculator compares today’s planets with your natal chart and lists contacts within orb.
Can I check transits for a future date?
Yes. Change the transit date to any day from 1900 to 2099. The 12-month timeline starts from that date.
Do I need my birth time for a transit chart?
Not for transits to natal planets. Without a time the calculator leaves out the Ascendant, Midheaven and houses rather than using a guessed noon chart.
What is the difference between a transit chart and astrocartography?
Astrocartography maps where your natal planets were angular at birth. A transit chart shows when moving planets aspect your natal chart. Adding a city here links the two by checking transits to that city’s relocated angles.
Why does one transit appear in several bars?
Slow planets can turn retrograde and pass the same degree two or three times. Each bar is a separate period within orb, and each diamond marks an exact pass.
Is a hard transit bad?
No. Conjunctions, squares and oppositions are read as stronger emphasis or friction, trines and sextiles as easier flow. Neither is a verdict, and both can coincide with ordinary, manageable periods.
